Born and raised in Trenton, New Jersey, Clare was the youngest of three siblings. As a child, she loved to draw and do different forms of artwork. She was considered by many as the class artist and frequently had her work displayed in the school halls. In spite of her talents as an artist, she was advised by her high school art instructor that it would be very difficult to survive as an artist in that economy and she should consider following a business career. Clare followed her recommendation and became very successful in numerous positions she held in Corporate Communications. She managed several organizations with responsibilities in software security, disaster recovery, organizational compliance with information and asset protection policies, as well as systems consultant and sales. Within each organization, she created new processes and had major sales that lead to significant awards from the company. Among her many responsibilities during her thirty-three year career with New Jersey Bell and AT&T, Clare was always given top ratings for her hard work and creativity. She was instrumental in training her employees to hold higher positions and was given an award for Manager Excellence. Of course, there was little time to devote to her passion of the arts other than occasional ventures into various art media in her spare time. Following retirement, Clare and her husband, Ron, moved to Cape Coral, Florida to enjoy the sunshine state and benefits of living on a beautiful picturesque wide intersecting canal. She was introduced to a New Residence Club shortly after her move to Florida and became active as the First Vice President with responsibility for creating monthly dance themes and decorations. This was an open door to do something that she loved. She quickly formed a decoration's team that met twice a month to create stage and table decorations from Clare's designs. As a result of her creativity and team work, she and her team consistently broke record attendance at the monthly dances.
Clare also enjoyed gourmet cooking and joined a gourmet club which required rotations of members to host a gourmet meal with member participation in making assigned menu items. Clare used her experience in table decorations and prop design to bring uniqueness to the meal presentations. In an effort to create something different in one of her hosted dinners, she decided to try her hand with acrylic painting on canvas to use as a center piece attraction. She quickly found her identity as a painter and launched a new career in the art community.
In 2006, Clare turned her passion into a second career and became a full time fine art painter. She has been juried into numerous competitions, several solo exhibitions, fine art festivals, and her work can be found in National and International private collections. Clare was recognized as one of the top five new artists in the country by Artist's Magazine when she took first place in the Animal/Wildlife Category. Her work was selected for the official poster and marketing campaign for the 2007 Cape Coral Festival of the Arts and the 2007 Jazz in the Park concert in Lehigh Acres. She was recognized for the 2007 and 2008 Angels of the Arts New Artist of the Year award nomination by the Alliance for the Arts and Woman of the Month in Florida Women's Network website. Clare received an International Signature status with a Jack Richeson award in May 2007 and out of 80 paintings selected worldwide, was one of only three artists that had both of her entries juried into the 10th International Society of Acrylic Painters Annual International Exhibition. She received Best of Show with her entry in the International CSW Cyber juried art show and was selected as a semi-finalist in the American Artist's 70th Anniversary Art Competition. Her work and biographical information was published on their website in December 2007. One of Clare's celebrity portraits, which was donated to Arts for ACT (Abuse Counseling and Treatment) for their annual celebrity fundraising event was juried into their voice auction and appeared on the cover of Happenings magazine. The painting was auctioned by guest celebrity Joan Rivers. This year's donation was also selected into their live auction and auctioned by guest celebrity auctioneers, Jesse Metcalfe and Sharon Stone. Clare has donated to numerous charity organizations and has been very motivational to many retirees like her to pursue their life long dreams in the arts. She is a fine example to others and a testament that it is never too late to start something new. It is true for Clare and many of her followers that your heart doesn't know how old you are. As quoted by another fine art painter, It is never too late to be what you should have always been.
In 2007, Clare became one of seven Founding Members of Harbour View Gallery located in Cape Harbour, Cape Coral, Florida. She is the Visiting Artists Program Director for a cooperative fine art gallery devoted to representing distinctive and extraordinaire works of art featuring visiting artists from all over the country. As a result of her experience and eye for critique, Clare has served as juror for the Cape Coral Festival of the Arts and Art Fest Fort Myers. She has also been selected to participate in several fine art festivals throughout Florida.
Clare continues to study under several Master Artists such as Douglas Flynt, Charles Miano, Greg Biochini, and others, learning the techniques in drawing and oil painting used by the Old Masters. She has also done charcoal studies at the John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art in Sarasota, Florida. Shifting her attention to the use of oil media, she recently completed a series of work, Pink Ballet, representing the movements of roseate spoonbills using French ballet terminology in their titles. Pink Ballet is composed of thirteen oil paintings and is meant to convey the beauty of these colorful pink birds as they move on the waterway in various shades of pink. One of the selected paintings was given the top ten people's choice recognition for an International Animal Competition, a merit award from the 2009 Artist Colony International Online Exhibition and juried into the National League of American Pen Women Art Exhibit at the 2009 Conference.
Clare is a member of the Art Council of Southwest Florida, Cape Coral Art League, the Alliance for the Arts, United Arts Council of Collier County, National League of American Pen Women and a Signature Member of the International Society of Acrylic Painters. Her work has been published in Artist's Magazine, American Artist Magazine's website, Happenings Magazine, News Press, Cape Coral Breeze, Florida Weekly News Publications, New Jersey and Yardley, PA news publications, and the Naples Illustrated Magazine. Her work also appeared as the cover art for Happenings Magazine and two of Collier County Bar Association's Adverse Witness Publications. She was featured on a Comcast TV special and can be found on numerous websites.
